I’m from Norway, but I live in Bangkok, Thailand. Before I started VHDLwhiz, I worked as an FPGA engineer in the defense industry. I earned my master’s degree in informatics at the University of Oslo.

How to create a PWM controller in VHDL
Pulse-width modulation (PWM) is an efficient way to control analog electronics from purely digital FPGA pins. Instead of attempting to regulate the analog voltage, PWM rapidly switches on and off the supply current at full power to the analog device. This method gives us precise control over the moving average of energy provided to the…
Jenkins for FPGA projects using Vivado and GitHub on a Linux VPS
This tutorial teaches you how to set up an automation server on a Virtual Private Server (VPS) using Jenkins, Xilinx Vivado, and the Git / GitHub source-control management (SCM) system.
Jenkins can be a valuable tool also for FPGA teams. Automating tasks can save your company time and improve the quality of your code. By using automatic build triggers and automated job pipelines, fewer coding errors will go unnoticed.
How to install a VHDL simulator and editor for free
Although VHDL and FPGA tools are often very expensive, it is easy to access state-of-the-art software for free if you are a student. There are several simulators, editors, and IDEs for working with VHDL. This article shows you how to install two of the most popular programs used by VHDL engineers. VHDL simulator Siemens EDA’s…
Dual 7-segment display FPGA controller
In this article, I will present a VHDL module that can display a two-digit number on the Pmod SSD: Seven-segment Display from Digilent. The dual 7-segment display is compatible with the Pmod interface, meaning that you can use it without any soldering. It fits into the Pmod connector, which is standard on many FPGA development boards.
RC servo controller using PWM from an FPGA pin
Radio-controlled (RC) model servos are tiny actuators typically used in hobbyist model planes, cars, and boats. They allow the operator to control the vehicle via a radio link remotely. Because RC models have been around for a long time, the de-facto standard interface is pulse-width modulation (PWM), rather than a digital scheme. Fortunately, it’s easy…
FPGA course – Everything you need to know about the Dot Matrix VHDL Course
I’m excited to announce that the VHDL and FPGA course that I have been working on for the last six months is starting to become complete. The course is in beta at the moment, and I am planning on launching it for the first time this autumn. Who is the FPGA course for? The FPGA…
Though those two codes are logically equivalent, the right one infers a transparent latch, it shouldn’t be used for synthesis.
I don’t think it does, but I’m not 100% sure what the synthesis tools do all the time.
This will infer a latch:
This shouldn’t create any latches:

Hi sir, You designed this course very well and advanced. I am happy to recommend this course to my friends.
I’m glad you enjoyed it! And thanks for taking the time to leave a nice comment.
